Roots on tuesday @ Shelter in the shade — 10 March 2026
Roots on Tuesday is a circle of friends in Groningen who record reggae in a home studio — "not a professional thing", in their own words on SoundCloud: people who love reggae and build a new riddim once in a while. The project surfaced online in 2019 as Roots on Tuesday Records, with the band's own tracks (COVID 19, Dangerous, Rudeboy, Worth to Work for, Gameplay) and with singers: the Gambian-born Groninger Ismael Jabbie (Let them come to Groningen, You are from Africa, We Bring Love and Peace, It's not Easy with Scooly) and the Senegalese singer Nuru Kane (Nigmarie, La Petit Sarah). In February 2022 the band produced Ismael Jabbie's This is my town: Groningen, the song behind the petition against his deportation; Sikkom later reported that he could stay, and that he thanked everyone with a new song. Live, Roots on Tuesday is a fixture of the Shelter in the Shade benefit festivals at the HSA in Groningen — reggae and African music for a children's project in Mvutjini, eSwatini — in 2020, 2022, 2024, 2025 and on 3 October 2026.
